Hidden from the world, deep within Botswana's Okavango Delta, is the safari paradise of Eagle Island Camp by Orient-Express. Situated on the island of Xaxaba and surrounded by Ilala Palms, the camp overlooks a lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Okavango Delta.
At Eagle Island Camp, your nature experience does not preclude comfort. You sleep in one of 12 twin-bedded thatched tents on raised decks. Each has a spacious viewing deck and outdoor deck with views over the lagoon. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife or for enjoying a private dinner in complete privacy.
The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with such comforts as an en suite bathroom, private fully stocked mini bar, four poster bed complete with mosquito netting, as well as a discreet air conditioning. For your convenience, in-room safes are provided for the safekeeping of all cash, travel documents and other such articles.
The area offers exceptionally high quality wildlife viewing with prolific birdlife and mammal sightings. Built to blend into its environment, the camps offer guests a peaceful setting perfect for enjoying the sights and sounds of the Okavango Delta. The magnificent sunsets can be enjoyed during times of high flood from the camp's most romantic Fish-Eagle Bar at Eagle Island or from the raised deck overlooking the lagoon.

Eagle Island Camp has an exclusive private suite, perfect for a more intimate safari experience. The naturally stunning private suite with a spacious secluded deck area is set away from the other tents in the camp. The extended viewing deck has two relaxing sun loungers, perfect for basking in the warm African sun. To the side, a generous heated splash pool is set amongst the trees for shade and privacy, yet with full views of the Delta and allows one to wallow in communion with the hippos whilst spotting elephant and crocodiles on the island banks.
The open air double showers and beautiful deep copper-framed Victorian bath, with only the tree canopy as a roof, offers further opportunities to commune with nature. Guests enjoying the luxurious new suite will have the opportunity to enjoy game-viewing on their own exclusive vehicle with their own personal guide and they will be able to set out on a safari expedition as and when they wish. Choose an elegant candle-lit dinner on the private outdoor deck (additional rates apply). Among the many other indulgences available in the suite include temperature controlled rooms, a well-stocked mini bar, oversized fluffy bathrobes, big soft bath sheets, cosy slippers and luxurious bathroom toiletries.
With incredible views cross the Okavango Delta and delicious food to match, the dining experience at Eagle Island Camp is one to remember. Dine in the open air or under the covered area and watch the Botswana sun set across the water-lily-filled waters. After dinner enjoy the bar and lounge areas. Seated around the camp fire, you can share stories of the day's experiences with other guests or simply curl up and relax while the wildlife in the Delta does the same.
The kitchen offers something for everyone all day and will also be glad to prepare picnics for you to take on a game drive. Game drives often start early. You will be woken with a light breakfast to enjoy in your tent before setting off on your drive. On your return the kitchen will be open for a light brunch to satisfy you until the next adventure begins.

Eagle Island Camp’s serene watery base lends itself to quiet relaxation, contemplation and reflection. If, however, you are looking for adventure and excitement then Eagle Island will not disappoint – from walking safaris on surrounding islands, where there is always the possibility of a close encounter, to mokoro and motor boat excursions around the myriad of waterways, the diversity and propensity of the wildlife will fascinate the most seasoned of travelers to Africa.
During the months of November through March, when lower water levels make it possible to drive in open 4x4 vehicles off the island, guests can also enjoy the combined excitement of a game drive. The camp offers game viewing activities in the morning and late afternoons. Bird and game viewing is done either from motorzsed boats or mokoro (traditional dugout canoes), which are poled along effortlessly and quietly through the clear waters of the Okavango.
Activities are dependent on the water levels. Activities throughout the year would typically include mokoro rides (dugout canoes), unless the water is too low, and game walks. When water levels are too low for water activities, game viewing is conducted by vehicle or on foot. Between June and September when the water is high, guests can also take motorboat rides.
