I do not have the vocabulary of words good enough to say how good Chitabe Lediba was. From the moment we were welcomed straight off the plane by Goodman and got into the Safari transport this was an...
Chitabe Lediba is situated on an elevated island within the Chitabe Reserve. This fairly dry area lies towards the south of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, largely surrounded by the Moremi Game Reserve, and is generally regarded as good for game year-round. The camp’s focus is solely on drives rather than water activities.
Chitabe Lediba has just five secluded tented chalets, set on low decks and shaded by large trees. Each has a veranda at the front kitted out with comfortable chairs, a couple of footstools and a table. From here, double doors lead into the bedroom, with polished dark-wood floors and rattan rugs. The décor is smart and airy, but not overdone. Comfortable beds (or, in the honeymoon room, a four-poster) sit under a mosquito net, and are flanked by bedside tables with reading lamps. A writing desk plays host to stationery, magazines and bottled water, and the adjacent strip of universal plugs is handy for charging batteries – though not suitable for hairdryers. A ceiling fan and standing fan help to keep the tent cool and the mosquitoes at bay, while meshed windows enable a cooling breeze to flow through.
In contrast with areas further north in the Delta, the Chitabe Reserve is largely mixed forest: an interesting mosaic of mopane and acacia woodlands. However as the reserve is bordered to the north and east by the Gomoti River and to the south-west by the Santantadibe River, you will also find riverine forests, lagoons and lush channels.
The immediate area is shady, due to wooded glades but there are few open plains. In a sharp contrast with the areas further north, it's largely forested with an interesting combination of riverine forests, mopane and acacia woodlands, interrupted by sporadic lush channels.
Chitabe Lediba Camp is smaller than its sister, Chitabe Camp and offers the same exciting opportunities for game viewing, but in a much more intimate surrounding. This makes this camp the ideal destination for smaller groups and in particular it is geared up for families. They pride themselves and have an excellent reputation for their 'unfailingly friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable staff, who are always willing to chat about the camp and the surrounding wildlife.

Chitabe Lediba has five luxurious safari tents with wooden floors, large glass sliding doors and decorated in a clean contemporary style. All tents have spacious en suite bathroom facilities as well as outdoor showers. Each are connected to Chitabe Lediba's main living area by a series of wooden walkways.
Two of the chalets are family units, consisting of two en-suite bedrooms – one with an outside shower. Both rooms share a balcony and one unit has an interleading hallway, well suited for families with younger children or friends travelling together.
The open dining area and lounge are shaded under a high thatched roof. An open hexagonal teak deck also offers space to relax with unimpeded views of the animals that frequent the camp, including the occasional close-up of an enormous elephant.

Both camps at Chitabe offer guests game drives in open 4x4 vehicles during the day and at night accompanied by an experienced guide, as well as nature walks. Chitabe is strictly a game viewing area - no water activities are offered here.
Typically guests leave for a game drive in the morning and again in the afternoon, returning usually after dark to take advantage of the many more elusive nocturnal animals often seen here. The two camps utilize the same game drive areas, so the game viewing experience is identical at the two camps.
