Of all of the Eco-lodges that we visited in Cambodia and Laos, this one is the best. We only spent one night but I would gladly have stayed a week. It's an amazing place and the tents blend into...
On the banks of the mighty Mekong, Kamu Lodge is a deliberately rustic retreat. Beyond WiFi. Beyond satellite television. Beyond an unlimited flow of electric current. But upon the threshold of serendipity. From a base camp set with 20 safari tents, the possibilities are as close as a neighboring Kamu Village, or as distant as your legs will carry you.
Two of the world's top-three hotels accommodate guests in safari Tented Lodges. Just like Kamu Lodge. Our 20 freestanding lodges are hybrids actually. Thick-walled tents shut out the elements while a sturdy thatch roof guards against rain and sun. However rustic the look and feel, the mattresses guarantee a good night's sleep in Luang Prabang.
Opened in 2004, Kamu Lodge is a private eco-lodge engaged with low-impact travel, seeking for a balance between tourism and conservation of local culture and ethnic heritage. Settled on the banks of the Mekong River, in a remote valley of paddy fields, between small villages and forested mountains, Kamu Lodge is located 2.5 hours upstream of Luang Prabang. It is accessible only by boat. Developed by Apple Tree group, Kamu Lodge has been a pioneer of responsible tourism in Lao PDR. Involving inhabitants of one the surrounding villages, it is still a good example of integration within local life and natural environment.

In the spirit of sustainable lodging, solar panels fixed to the roofs gather just enough juice to keep your fan turning all night and your interior lit. Every lodge features a whitewashed stone annex, and the familiar trappings of a traditional bath. Hot water flows from Kamu showerheads. And there's ample space to maneuver about as you make your daily ablutions. On the apron of every lodge, a thatch-covered veranda and its rustic easy chairs encourage passive enjoyment of a timeless view over the slow-moving Mekong. Our full board Hotel Luang Prabang package feature return transfers from Luang Prabang to Kamu Lodge.
Perched on a bluff above the Mekong, dining at Kamu Lodge is a cultural experience all its own. In this unique, stilted pavilion, guests dine as local Kamu villagers frequently do. In the open air. Under thatch. On cuisine borne in the heart of Lao.
