We were drawn by the historical nature of this hotel but unfortunately the rooms were not historic - just in need of an update. Hotel was tired rather than quaint.
The Petit Palace Posada del Peine holds the distinction of being the oldest hotel in Spain, with a history dating back to 1610, and it is located in the absolute heart of Madrid's historic center, steps from the magnificent Plaza Mayor. Blending centuries of history—evident in its original architectural features like the small antique peepholes and old signage—with modern, boutique-style comfort, the hotel offers a unique stay. While preserving its fascinating past, the rooms are equipped with the latest technology, and the hotel provides contemporary services like complimentary bicycle rental, making it a perfect, charming choice for travelers who want to be immersed in the history and vibrant life of Old Madrid.

Focuses entirely on experiential engagement with Madrid's historic heart rather than on-site amenities. As a historic boutique hotel, it does not feature a pool or traditional gym. Its primary recreational asset is its unique location, offering immediate, immersive access to the city's most vibrant walking areas, historical sites, and cultural attractions, including the nearby Plaza Mayor. Crucially, the hotel supports active exploration by offering free bicycle rental, allowing guests to easily navigate the city and access wider recreational areas like Casa de Campo or Retiro Park, making the entirety of Old Madrid the focus of the guest's leisure time.
