What could be Grande Prairie's most popular year-round tourist attraction is Muskoseepi Park located in the central part of the City.
The largest centre in Alberta, north of the provincial capital of Edmonton, Grande Prairie is the gateway to Peace River Country. A rich, agricultural history coupled with a thriving oil and natural gas industry has helped to bring Grande Prairie from a small village to a city of around 45,000 and a greater area of over 200,000. The history of the Peace River Region and the city of Grande Prairie, from its founding as a village in 1914 to its present-day boomtown status, is exhibited at the Grande Prairie Museum. Taking adventure from the natural surroundings and abundant wildlife, guides lead big game hunting expeditions in the area around Grande Prairie for animals such as moose, elk, deer and bear. Muskoseepi Park is a favourite spot among locals, with kilometres of hiking trails, a skatepark and a climbing wall providing the entertainment. Other attractions include the New Great Northern Casino and the Prairie Mall Shopping Centre.
