Savaii

Known for its pristine scenery, gentle and traditional way of life, and archaeological sites

From a rich, unspoilt marine life and breath-taking waterfalls, to caves, blowholes and rainforests teeming with birds, Savai'i is third largest Polynesian island after Tahiti and New Zealand. Mostly uninhabited, Samoa’s largest island offers a wilder experience of Pacific life than ‘Upolu and is known for its pristine scenery, gentle and traditional way of life, and archaeological sites. Most of the island’s villages are scattered along the main coast road and there you will see locals relaxing in large traditional thatched houses or bathing in communal rock pools.

You will discover a remarkable assortment of weathered churches, fortifications, star mounds and ancient platforms. A nearly impenetrable jungle together with many volcanic craters cover a large portion of the island but the island does not lack the obligatory tropical holiday ‘must-haves’ such white sandy, palm-fringed beaches and turquoise lagoons.
