The park is host to hundreds of flowering plants including trees, shrubs, vines, creepers, small herbs, orchids, lilies and other specialised plants such as the parasites like mistletoe. Some of the flora to be seen  includes tree waratah, white heath, flame kurrajong, stinging tree, antarctic beech tree, ironbark orchid, king orchid, red cedar, wild tobacco, sundew, and grass tree.Most of the Park's amphibians and reptiles are best seen on holidays in Lamington National Park during the summer months. O'Reilly's is 37km (23 miles) from the town of Canungra. The road is twisty and winding, so take it slow. Allow an hour from Canungra to reach O'Reilly's, and plan to arrive before dark. Binna Burra is 35km (22 miles) from Nerang via Beechmont, or 26km (16 miles) from Canungra, on a winding mountain road. From the Gold Coast go west to Nerang, where you can turn off to Binna Burra via Beechmont, or go on to Canungra, where you will see the O'Reilly's and Binna Burra turnoffs. From Brisbane, follow the Pacific Highway south and take the Beenleigh/Mount Tamborine exit to Mount Tamborine. From there, follow signs to Canungra. Allow a good 2 1/2 hours to get to either resort from Brisbane, and 90 minutes from the Gold Coast. Binna Burra sells unleaded fuel; O'Reilly's has emergency supplies only.

Lamington is pleasant all year, with May to October being the drier months and probably the best time to visit. Visitors familiar with Lamington National Park tend to appreciate walking in winter as the fine weather makes views less hazy, rain is usually minimal and leeches uncommon. Summer storms are common, and can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters tend to be sunny, but often cold (12 degrees), with evening temperatures near freezing.

  Lamington is considered to be on average 5° C cooler than Brisbane. Extreme winter temperatures can get below 0° C. Frosts can occur. The park usually receives on average about 1.8 m of rain per year. The wet season is typically from November through to March.
