Hobart is Australia’s most southern city and it hides a wild convict past and rich history. For a very long time, Hobart was dismissed as a backwater of Australia and the destination was simply not geared up to provide an great tourist experience. A few tourists did come to eat and drink at the pubs near the old docks, or to browse the craft shops at the historic stone warehouses of Salamanca Place but this was visibly low key. Today, Hobart has discovered a new self confidence and the tourists can’t get enough of it. The MONA gallery opened in 2010 and with its exquisite restaurants, cafés and shops, fine architectural heritage and relaxed lifestyle a Hobart holiday is a worthy addition to any Australia itinerary.
